Water Residue in an LCD Screen

Step 1 -- After removing the computer from the power source, shut it down and remove the battery. Turn the laptop over with the keyboard facing down for about a few minutes. This should help drain any excess water. Get a suitable sized screwdriver and get ready to open it up. Avoid oversized screwdrivers for this purpose. It is also important to know that the LCD screen is delicate and as such, must be treated with care. Nevertheless, before you do this, check to see that you are confident enough to take your laptop apart. If you are not, contact a qualified technician.

Step 2 -- Now, the frame around the screen is the bezel, on it, you will find the rubber screw seals. There are usually four of these screw seals. Gently remove the rubber screw seals and the exposed screws with the screwdriver.

Step 3 -- Carefully peel the screen bezel off the LCD cover.

Step 4 -- After removing the bezel, their may be a few screws at the front and two or more other screws at the sides that are holding the screen. Remove these.

Step 5 -- Gently place a towel on the keyboard and carefully remove and then deposit the LCD screen on the towel. Be sure to remove the inverter board and video cable.

Step 6 -- Take notice of the position of all the screws and sticky tapes as you will have to put them back to their initial positions. Make sure you don't touch or scratch the circuit board in the process of disassembling.

Step 7 -- After removing stains caused by water residue with a soft cloth, put the LCD screen back. You can do this by reversing the steps you initially took to disassemble the LCD screen. You can now try to turn the computer on.

Hopefully your computer comes right back up when you try it again. If not, you may need to look into a replacement LCD screen. Also, if the computer won't start, you may have to make sure your motherboard or other hardware wasn't damaged from the water.
